Shanekia Calbert, LCSW
Stress and Anxiety Management Therapist ยท Fort Lauderdale, FL
Hello, I'm Shanekia Calbert
Your mind feels like it's going a thousand miles a minute. One moment, you're feeling too much โ the anxiety, the overthinking, the pressure, the emotions. Then there are moments when you feel nothing at all. Some days, everything feels heavy. Other days, you wish you could just feel something.
You're tired of carrying so much. You just want your mind to quiet down. You want to stop feeling everything else long enough to finally feel some peace. Your circumstances do not have to keep dictating your present reality.
In the space we create together, you don't have to perform, have the right answers, or pretend you're doing better than you are. Our priority is understanding what you're experiencing, what your anxiety or depression may be trying to communicate, and what you need to feel more grounded and capable of moving forward.
I am Shanekia Calbert, and I believe deeply in our capacity to grow, adapt, and create something different for ourselves. Originally from Jamaica, my own experience of moving to America taught me about navigating change, adapting to unfamiliar circumstances, and finding purpose along the way. Those experiences have shaped how I see people and the work we do together.
Your past and your present circumstances are part of your story, but they do not have to determine what comes next. In our work, we can honor what you've been through while becoming curious about who you are now, what you need, and where you want to go from here. To support your individual needs, I integrate AEDP, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Trauma-Focused CBT, and I've trained in components of psychodrama that I enjoy weaving into sessions when they're a good fit. I also offer Christian counseling for clients who want their faith to be part of the work. My focus has always been anxiety and stress, but my experience runs wide, from young children to adolescents to adults and the families around them.

How We Will Work Together
I don't believe therapy should feel like someone with a poker face sitting across from you telling you what you're doing wrong. I want our work to feel like a partnership. My approach allows us to work with both what is happening in your life right now and what may be lingering beneath the surface. Instead of immediately asking, "How do we get rid of this?" we may also ask, "What is this trying to tell us?"
Anxious & Overwhelmed Teens
Irritability, avoidance, procrastination, and shutting down are often a teen's way of communicating "I'm struggling." We become curious about the message and purpose behind the behavior, and build emotional awareness and coping skills.
Anxious & Overwhelmed Adults
We look beyond how well you're functioning and make room for the more important question: how are you actually doing? We explore the patterns behind anxiety and overwhelm while building practical ways to navigate difficult emotions.
AEDP, IFS & Motivational Interviewing
AEDP works with emotion directly in the moment. IFS helps us understand the different "parts" of you without judgment. Motivational Interviewing helps you explore your own reasons for change, so motivation lasts because it's yours.
Christian Counseling & Faith-Integrated Therapy
If your Christian faith is important to you, it can be incorporated into care, always at your choice. You're equally welcome here if you're questioning your faith or prefer therapy without any spiritual component.
Frequently Asked Questions
Both, along with adolescents and families. I have more than 8 years of experience working across ages, from young children through adulthood, often within the same family.
AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) works with emotion directly rather than just talking about it, helping you process feelings in the moment so healing can actually take hold.
Internal Family Systems, or IFS, offers a way of understanding the different "parts" of ourselves. For example, one part of you may want change while another part feels afraid of it. Rather than judging those internal conflicts, we can become curious about what different parts may be trying to accomplish or protect.
Psychodrama uses role-play and other experiential techniques to help you access and work through feelings that talk therapy alone doesn't always reach. I've trained in components of it and bring it into sessions when it's a good fit for what a client needs.
It's an approach that helps you explore your own reasons for change, rather than being told what to do, which tends to make the motivation last longer because it's yours.
Yes. Christian faith and spirituality can be incorporated into care for clients who want it, and the choice not to include it is equally respected. Our work always remains grounded in psychotherapy.
